A Passageway That Connects and Inspires

Trenčín 2026 is opening doors for creative visionaries! The Creative Institute Trenčín is launching an international artistic and architectural competition as part of the European Capital of Culture Trenčín 2026 project. The goal is to transform the pedestrian underpass near the railway station into a vibrant cultural and artistic space.

Currently, the Trenčín underpass is merely a transit zone, passed through by thousands of people daily. The competition aims to breathe new life into the space, turning it into a place that sparks curiosity and encourages interaction with art.

Art, Light, and Safety

“The fundamental requirement of the competition is an artistic and architectural intervention that will make the underpass more attractive, improve its lighting, and enhance the feeling of safety. We want the underpass to be more than just a passageway—we want it to become a space for experiences, art, and creativity,” explains Lívia Gažová, project manager of Trenčín 2026.

The competition is open to individuals and collectives from the fields of architecture, design, and visual arts. The interventions may include murals, light installations, or interactive elements.

Competition Deadline and Conditions

The competition is open until April 4, 2025, at 3:00 PM. Details on eligibility, submission requirements, and evaluation criteria are available on the Trenčín 2026 website.

The Underpass as Part of a Larger Transformation

The revitalization of the underpass is part of broader investments in public space.

“We plan to install glass entrances to the underpass, similar to the one near Hotel Elizabeth, to make the space brighter and more welcoming,” adds Erika Ságová, spokesperson for the Trenčín City Hall.

Once completed, the underpass will become a modern, safe, and visually appealing space, reflecting the spirit of the Trenčín 2026 project—Awakening Curiosity.
