Quasars Ensemble is one of the leading musical ensembles in Slovakia. Since its founding in 2008, it has specialized in 20th-century modern classical music, combined with contemporary works. The ensemble’s repertoire includes pieces by prominent composers such as Michael Jarrell, Kaija Saariaho, Toshio Hosokawa, and Tristan Murail, whose works are often performed in their personal presence.
The ensemble is a regular guest at prestigious international festivals in Munich, Brussels, Budapest, Warsaw, and Katowice. In 2013, it received the prestigious Crystal Wing Award for a recording of works by Arnold Schoenberg, Alexander Albrecht, and Paul Hindemith.
The artistic leader of the ensemble, composer and conductor Ivan Buffa, is one of the leading figures in the Slovak music scene. He is a recipient of the Ján Boleslav Bellu Award (2007), and his compositions have been performed at major festivals in Bamberg, Salzburg, Zagreb, Vienna, and Ostrava. Alongside his artistic career, he also teaches at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava and the University of Vienna.
The concert in Trenčín will present a distinctive blend of modern European music and chamber works by Slovak composers, which will be particularly striking in the sacred space of the church.
This concert is part of the program of European Capital of Culture Trenčín 2026, which connects the community and opens new cultural opportunities.
