Revitalization of the recreational and educational zone Trenčiansky luh
The history of Trenčiansky luh dates back to the 1950s, when the river flow slowed down after the completion of one of the stages of the Vážska kaskáda cascade resulting in the creation of a floodplain forest. The area of almost 13.5 hectares with rich and rare biodiversity was declared a municipally protected area in 2021, which is divided into a non-interference zone and a recreational and educational zone with an educational trail.
The aim of the revitalization is to create a space for recreational activities with community elements and to support the floodplain forest ecosystem. The winning proposal envisages the creation of a small water arm following the original course of the river, which will enhance the public space and provide children with playful and safe access to the water.
The project has been realised thanks to the title of European Capital of Culture Trenčín 2026.
