The musical ensemble NOGABAND focuses on reviving and interpreting old playing styles of Slovak folk music. The current lineup includes Jakub Líška (violin), Ján Tej (viola kontra), Marek Neumahr (cimbalom), and Michal Filip (double bass). The leader and primáš of the band, Michal Noga (violin), is a trained ethnomusicologist, as well as a lecturer and organizer of various music workshops. He is currently working on his own methodology for playing the violin in folk music. In 2020, the band released their debut album Stopy, which won the Radio_Head Award for Album of the Year in the World Music / Folk genre category that same year. The band became the first Slovak group in history to be included in the prestigious Transglobal World Music Charts (22nd place). They also achieved high rankings multiple times in the World Music Charts Europe. The album received very positive reviews in the renowned British magazine Songlines, and samples were aired on BBC radio and other international media. The band regularly performs at folklore and world music festivals both at home and abroad.
After the concert, the musical evening will continue with informal jamming. Bring your instruments!
