The cultural background is coming back to the Dlhé Hony neighbourhood.
Reconstruction of the cultural and community center Dlhé Hony
The Dlhé Hony neighbourhood was built at the end of the 1950s to accommodate the military garrison in Trenčín. The architecture of socialist realism with lower buildings and limited urbanism was complemented by three dominating high-rise red Panel buildings. The local cultural centre was used by various senior organisations, dance groups, folklore ensembles and a kindergarten until 2020, when it had to be closed due to the state of disrepair of the roof and the building’s structure. The centrepiece of the renovation features the original atrium, which will be opened up towards the adjacent town market. The synergy of these two spaces will create the potential for the expansion of the various cultural and social functions of the new universal leisure centre into the public space.
The project has been realised thanks to the title of European Capital of Culture Trenčín 2026.
