About the Ensemble
Founded in 2008, Quasars Ensemble is one of Slovakia’s most distinctive professional music groups. While focusing on contemporary classical music, they also embrace works from earlier eras. Their bold programming, juxtaposing modern compositions with classical masterpieces, has earned them international acclaim. Don’t miss this unique musical experience!
Since its founding in 2008, the group has focused on performing and promoting modern classical music of the 20th century alongside contemporary compositions. They have showcased works by many prominent contemporary composers, often in the presence of the composers themselves, including Michael Jarrell, Kaija Saariaho, Toshio Hosokawa, and Tristan Murail. The ensemble has performed at prestigious international festivals in Munich, Brussels, Budapest, Warsaw, Katowice, and more.
In 2013, Quasars Ensemble was awarded the prestigious Crystal Wing Award for their recording of works by Arnold Schoenberg, Alexander Albrecht, and Paul Hindemith. Their artistic director, conductor, and composer Ivan Buffa (b. 1979), won the Ján Levoslav Bella Award in 2007. Buffa’s compositions have been featured at major festivals in Bamberg, Salzburg, Zagreb, Vienna, and Ostrava. He currently teaches at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava and the University of Vienna.
The concert in Trenčín promises a distinctive blend of modern European music and chamber works by Slovak composers.
