The Lively Neighbourhoods community project, which successfully kick-started neighbourhood life in Trenčín last autumn, is returning this spring. This Saturday, April 5, 2025, the new season kicks off with Spring in Juh – a gathering of residents of the Juh housing estate to clean up, plant, share lunch and enjoy spring activities for the whole community.

The Lively Neighbourhoods project is an initiative of the European Capital of Culture Trenčín 2026 and its aim is to promote interpersonal relations and community spirit in different parts of the city. It builds on the autumn activities, which were very much appreciated by the residents and which they themselves expressed interest in continuing. The first spring event is Spring in Juh, which will take place on Saturday, April 5, 2025.

Spring in Juh: greenery, goulash and theatre

In the Juh housing estate, the surroundings will be cleaned, greenery will be planted, flowers and plants will be replaced – both in gardens and on balconies. After working together, the participants will enjoy a goulash and the goodies they have brought. There will be a theatre performance for the children and a space for adults to talk, relax and welcome spring. More information: https://www.trencin2026.eu/en/podujatie/spring-in-juh/

“The Lively Neighbourhoods project shows that even simple activities can make a significant contribution to better relations between people and a more positive atmosphere in the city. We are pleased that people are actively involved and want to continue this initiative,” says Lenka Abaffyová, project manager of Trenčín 2026.

Theatre Spring at Hrybik: another neighbourhood celebration on 24 April

Another event will be held on the spring wave – Theatre Spring at Hrybik, which will take place on 24 April 2025. Visitors can expect theatrical performances, community activities and informal gatherings that will further deepen neighborhood relationships and bring culture directly into the city’s public spaces. The Lively Neighbourhoods are part of the Trenčín 2026 – European Capital of Culture programme and were created as a response to the need to create better relations between residents and to promote their interest in public space. The project gives residents the freedom and support to organise their own events – from book exchanges to joint barbecues and herb planting. The events are open and free of charge, and everyone is welcome to get involved.

Trenčín 2026 is financially supported by the City of Trenčín, the Trenčín Self-Administration Region and the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic. The project partner is the European Union.
