The first screening, which took place on November 22, 2024, in the Small Hall of KKC Hviezda, exceeded expectations. The French film The Specials, despite its challenging subject (working with autistic children and youth), captivated the audience, and students watched it intently and with great interest until the very end. After the screening, they sat in silence, visibly moved by the film, which was confirmed during an informal discussion afterward.
The teachers also reacted very positively. Upon seeing how deeply the subject of autism resonated with the students, they promised to explore this topic further during their lessons, where there will be enough time for a more in-depth analysis.
We have our first ambassador for the project, 4th-year student Denis Cabala. He wrote a short review about the event:
“I was impressed by the film’s visual treatment – especially the camera work and editing, as well as the unique story presented. Autism is a very challenging topic to portray in film, but I believe the director succeeded in presenting it in a way that is accessible to a wider audience. Thanks to films like this, society can create a safer environment and foster understanding for people with various differences.
In the words of the film’s character Dylan from The Specials – ‘C’était divin.’”
