The newly emerging Centrum architektúry Trenčín joined the 2024 International Festival of Architecture Days, organized under the umbrella of Trenčín 2026. The festival, titled “The Process of Transformation,” is a part of the 14th edition of the international Den architektury festival, run by the Czech association KRUH in cooperation with various initiatives from the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
From September 26 to November 5, 2024, the Architecture Days featured five events in Trenčín, held in the exhibition spaces of the M. A. Bazovský Gallery and the city of Nová Dubnica.
Main Event: “Nová Dubnica alias Vorošilovo” Exhibition
The central event was the opening of the exhibition Nová Dubnica alias Vorošilovo on Thursday, September 26, 2024. The exhibition focuses on the urbanism and architecture of the city of Nová Dubnica, previously nicknamed Vorošilovo, designed by architect Jiří Kroha. The opening was accompanied by an acoustic concert by guitarist Michal Berec.
Curated by Lucia M. Tóthová, Alexandra Mutala, and Radka Nedomová, the exhibition includes large-format reproductions and two models of Nová Dubnica buildings, prepared by architect Hana Laššová. The exhibition also features publications on Jiří Kroha and will run until the end of January 2025.
Guided Tours and Performances
On Saturday, September 28, 2024, architecture enthusiasts joined a guided tour of Nová Dubnica, led by curator Alexandra Mutala. The tour visited iconic landmarks such as the famous towers of the city’s hostels, offering panoramic views of the surrounding area. The tour concluded with a unique contemporary dance performance by Teleso, choreographed by Marta Blašková, blending modern art with the city’s genius loci.
Additional Events
The festival continued with various creative workshops and screenings, including a projection of short historical films about Jiří Kroha at the Panorex Cinema in Nová Dubnica. A creative workshop titled Novodubnické mozaiky was led by Lucia M. Tóthová, followed by a guided exhibition tour enriched with a video guide of the city.
The Centrum architektúry Trenčín plans to host more events related to the exhibition, including guided tours and workshops, through the end of the year.
