Ján Sudzina, the Director of the Creative Institute Trenčín, responsible for implementing the European Capital of Culture Trenčín 2026 project, resigned from his position on March 31 due to health reasons. The preparation and implementation of the project are proceeding as planned and remain on track.

“The Trenčín 2026 project is in good hands and has a solid foundation. I believe that the team will continue to work with full commitment to achieve the set goals. It saddens me that I can no longer continue with this remarkable project, but unfortunately, my health condition prevents me from doing so,” said Ján Sudzina.

The Trenčín 2026 team appreciates Jan Sudzina’s work and contribution to the whole project. A new director will be appointed in the standard way in cooperation with the Board of Trustees of the Creative Institute Trenčín, so that the team can smoothly continue the implementation of the programme in 2025 and preparations for 2026.

The Mayor of Trenčín, Richard Rybníček, who is a member of the project’s Board of Trustees, praised the work of the outgoing director: ‘Ján Sudzina has done a tremendous job in preparing the Trenčín 2026 project. His commitment and experience have contributed significantly to the development of the cultural environment in our city. He has managed to assemble a team that I believe will successfully continue the implementation of all planned activities.”

The Mayor of the Trenčín Self-Governing Region Jaroslav Baška, also a member of the Board of Directors, added: “The Trenčín 2026 project is extremely important for the whole region. I thank Ján Sudzin for his efforts, and I believe that the new director will build on his work. Although there is a change in leadership, the project remains stable, and its preparation and implementation will continue according to the set schedule.”
