The community project Lively Neighborhoods, which successfully sparked neighborhood life in Trenčín last autumn, is back this spring. The new season kicks off this Saturday, April 5, 2025, with Spring in Juh – a gathering of residents from the Juh housing estate to clean up their surroundings, plant greenery, share lunch, and enjoy spring activities for the whole community.

Lively Neighborhoods is an initiative of Trenčín 2026 – European Capital of Culture, aimed at strengthening social ties and building community spirit across various parts of the city. It builds on last year’s autumn activities, which were warmly received by residents who expressed a strong interest in continuing. The first spring event, Spring in Juh, takes place on Saturday, April 5, 2025.

Spring in Juh: Greenery, Goulash, and Theater

At the Juh housing estate, residents will clean public spaces, plant greenery, and exchange flowers and plants – both for gardens and balconies. After the shared effort, participants can enjoy goulash and homemade treats. Children can look forward to a theatre performance, while adults will have space to chat, relax, and welcome the spring season together. More info: Spring in Juh

“The Lively Neighborhoods project shows that even simple activities can significantly improve relationships between people and contribute to a more positive atmosphere in the city. We’re thrilled that people are getting involved and want to keep the initiative going,” says Lenka Abaffyová, project manager at Trenčín 2026.

Theatre Spring on Hrybik: Another Neighborhood Celebration on April 24

The spring momentum continues with another event – Theatre Spring on Hrybik, happening on April 24, 2025. Visitors can enjoy theatrical performances, community activities, and informal gatherings that further strengthen neighborly bonds and bring culture directly into public spaces. Lively Neighborhoods is part of the Trenčín 2026 – European Capital of Culture program. It emerged in response to the need for stronger community connections and increased civic engagement in public spaces. The project empowers residents to create and organize their own events – from book swaps to barbecues and herb planting. All events are open and free to attend, and everyone is welcome to join in.

Trenčín 2026 is financially supported by the City of Trenčín, the Trenčín Self-Governing Region, and the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic. The project is partnered by the European Union.
